We hope you noticed the influx of Newlyns Farm Shop bags being sported by many – nearly 1000 to be exact – around the Odiham area yesterday as we held the annual NSPCC Odiham & District Fair, and what a huge success it was! To mark 30 years of Childline – the telephone helpline dedicated to giving confidential advice to vulnerable young people – we joined the much deserved NSPCC celebration and brought generous giving and Christmas fever to North Hampshire.
On Thursday evening the NSPCC held a private view of the fair where stallholders from all regions of England gathered in a marquee under the dark October sky at Newlyns Farm Shop to raise money and clink a glass for the wonderful work that helps fight for the rights of every child. Then as the clock struck 9:30 on Friday morning floods of willing volunteers and supporters piled into the marquee to pledge a donation to the NSPCC while roaming the wide variety of stalls. From cheese, children’s clothing lines, wellingtons – that would literally knock the boats off you- to unusual Christmas gifts the NSPCC Odiham & District committee made a stellar job at bringing a vast array of talented producers to cater for all demographics and age groups.
What originally began as an event in one ladies Odiham home nearly 25 years ago has rocketed to an event attended by 1,200 people over two days. Every item sold at the fair raises vital funds for NSPCC projects – helping vulnerable young people throughout the UK. The donations will be calculated over several mediums: door sales, donations, 10% of stallholders takings, raffle tickets, stallholders’ nominated prizes for the raffle and from the deli counter where homemade food items had been gifted.
Each year as we plan the fair in association with the NSPCC we marvel at the amount of support it is shown by Hampshire neighbourhoods. Our fair NSPCC contacts informed us that this specific fair held at Newlyns is the BIGGEST in the country. To witness so many turning up to remain true to the real Christmas giving message has spurred us on to enter into the Winter months with purpose in our hearts. We would like to thank all who attended and made the event the success that it was. In due course, the money raised will be shared across Newlyns social media channels and we look forward to sharing more events in the near future with the NSPCC.
